By supporting A THREAD of Hope, you help support Sam’s Fans’ mission to support and enhance music and art therapy programs that serve seriously ill children and their families in Columbus and beyond. Sam’s Fans is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organizatio. Sam, born in 1998, was diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia (FA), an inherited anemia that leads to bone marrow failure, when she was in the first grade. She underwent a bone marrow transplant at just ten years old. Following her transplant, Sam spent much of the next fourteen months in the hospital. Throughout this difficult and isolating experience, one bright spot for Sam was the music therapist who would visit with her and could bring a small bit of normalcy and beauty to her days through music. It allowed her to better express her emotions, relieved stress, and was often the highlight of her day. In her memory, Sam’s Fans raises money to help provide art and music therapy for seriously ill children and their families. Despite her courageous battle, Samantha McCarthy passed away on October 15, 2009 at the age of eleven.
